BGP cycles through five states as it runs:
• Idle— Searching for neighbors
• Connect— TCP three-way handshake complete with neighbor
• Open Sent— BGP Open message has been sent
• Open Confirm— Response received (otherwise go to Active state)
• Established— BGP neighborship is established
